Klaas square: New restaurant manager and sommelier for the Werneckhof by Geisel

Markus and Tobias Klaas will join the team at the Munich two-star restaurant in autumn 2018

A very special team:

According to experts, the twins Markus and Tobias Klaas are among the best hosts in Germany. From autumn 2018 they will start together again, with a new job in the Munich two-star restaurant Werneckhof by Geisel. Tobias Klaas starts as a sommelier in September, Markus Klaas takes over the role of restaurant manager from October. The two passionate connoisseurs succeed Julia Pleintinger, who will face a new challenge after six years of very successful collaboration.

Tobias Klaas is already very familiar to the local gourmets, since 2014 he was employed as a restaurant manager and sommelier in Shane’s restaurant. Between 2012 and 2014, his previous stops included the Tantris with two Michelin stars and the terrine. He previously gained international experience in several two-star restaurants in London, including the Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley, as well as during a one-year work stay in Australia. Tobias Klaas has received several awards for his sound wine knowledge, most recently as “Sommelier of the Year 2017” at the Rolling Pin Awards.

Markus Klaas has made a name for himself as a restaurant manager in Joachim Wissler’s three-star restaurant Vendôme since 2013 – a school that Werneckhof chef Tohru Nakamura has enjoyed in the past and still appreciates today. Before working in Bergisch Gladbach, Markus Klaas’ career had parallels with his brother: From 2011 to 2013 he also worked in London, as a deputy restaurant manager at Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley, from 2008 to 2011 at Tantris. Last November he was named “Maître of the Year 2018” at the Rolling Pin Awards.
The 31-year-old brothers were born in the Munich area and completed their training as restaurant specialists in the Isar metropolis.

“We are really happy that we were able to win Tobias and Markus Klaas for our team around chef Tohru Nakamura and sous chef Dominik Schmid. Both works in a highly professional manner and also have impressive professional expertise, ”says the Geisel family, managing director of the Werneckhof.

The Werneckhof by Geisel is not only a culinary elite in Munich. After its launch in 2013, Tohru Nakamura quickly brought the restaurant in the Schwabing district to international recognition: two Michelin stars, 18 Gault Millau points, 4.5 Feinschmecker-Punkte and nine Gusto-Pfannen in less than five years speak for themselves. In addition, the Munich-born artist with Japanese roots has himself been raised several times in the kitchen Olympus: In 2015 Der Feinschmecker voted him “Chef of the Year”, in 2017 he received this title from Rolling Pin. His cuisine combines the best of two culinary worlds: classic European haute cuisine lays the foundation, Japanese accents form the character of his style. Seasonal products from the region are predominantly used.
